Museum of Satakunta (county in western Finland) was named the museum of the year 2019. I was however severy disappointed because the anniversary exhibition about Pori was fully in Finnish. Nothing was presented even in Swedish the second official language of Finland. The main exhibit in three floors had English texts (no Swedish here either). It told the story of Pori area and living from stone age to this day. While the items were interestingly described with additional information in electronic displays the characrer descriptions left a lot to be desired. Most made interesting statements like "her art represented women in ways that broke the contemporary image about them at the time." but there were no further information to be found. Only standard boring historical facts like lifedates, schools and career info making one of the most interesting parts of the exhibit irritatingly bland. This museum is clearly focused to cater to the needs of the people living in the area and offers only an interesting child friendly look around for international guests. There for example are play corners and multiple child height "open a door and see items". In this light the dark humour fridge magnets on sale that displayed Satakunta as an area where they don't speak English and instead give asylum seekers only a season pass to the local hockey games seemed more on the spot than irony.
